FuldaThe city of Fulda is located appropriately enough on the the Fulda river and is home to 64,000 people. You cannot get much more centrally located in Germany than this large city, and it truly serves as a crossroads for the country marked by the many rail lines, and highways that run through and around it. Founded in 744 as part of the Benedictine monastery of Fulda, it also has a rich history surrounding its neighborhoods. Even Napoleon utilized the location to traverse to and from battles when he needed to travel quickly and efficiently.
Porcelain was the industry of choice in the 18th century, and remained so until the early 19th century as the quality was so superior to competitors. The list of Abbots is precisely documented and is quite long ranging from 744 to 1814. During this time the landscape itself did not change much, but the government certainly did. Internal struggles were normal especially during the 18th century and the population became more transient as sentiments shifted between leaders. The churches were the one constant and many of the original structures still remain today serving as popular landmarks for residents, and attractions to visitors. Keep in mind that the Diocese of the German empire takes it’s name from the ancient Benedictine abbey of Fulda, which can traced back to medieval times in many of the churches and local museums.
The city has various points of interest and include The Flowers garden area, The Annals of Fulda, the Fulda River, and the Vendereu Museum to name a few. The Fulda Symphonic Orchestra is well-known throughout the region and does many concerts a year. Restaurants, pubs, shops, and local parks also offer some entertainment, and will certainly give you a much better feel for the area. Traffic is moderate as are the temperatures which range from 28 degree to around 68 degrees, can be a bit windy especially during the spring season.
