Mini guide to Fort Worth

Fort Worth, Texas, is truly representative of the southern spirit, with attractions ranging from rodeo shows, cattle drives and amusement parks to museums showcasing the history of the Old West. Additionally, the city has a superb cultural district with a range of art galleries, theatres and exhibits.

The most popular tourist venue in Fort Worth is the Historic Stockyards, offering plentiful and diverse attractions. Complete with mock shootouts and twice-daily longhorn cattle drives, this amazing venue will whisk you back in time to the days of the Wild West, and offers endless entertainment. There is a weekly rodeo show, abundant shopping opportunities and a variety of amusement park rides.

Billy Bob’s Texas is a vast ‘honky-tonk’ with different dance floors and concert stages, where some of America’s biggest musical acts perform. The Stockyard Station is the largest train station in the southwest, and the point of departure for the Tarantula Train, which takes visitors on historical rides around town or to the area of Grapevine, home to the Cotton Belt Depot.

Culture vultures will be delighted with Fort Worth’s cultural district, situated just west of the city centre. The Museum of Science and History is filled with fascinating exhibits and offers interesting insight into the history of the region.

The area is also home to a number of marvellous art museums, including the Amon G Carter Museum, the Modern Art Museum and the Kimbell Art Museum. Horse lovers should make their way to the Will Rogers Memorial Centre, where international equestrian events are regularly held.

Sundance Square is an extensive area of old buildings and red-brick roads in the centre of the city, where keen shoppers will be satisfied with the plethora of shops, boutiques and department stores. The square also encompasses two Art Deco movie theatres, historical homes and several museums; additionally, the olden-day atmosphere is heightened by horse-drawn carriages.

At night, Sundance Square is vividly illuminated with colourful lights, and its multitude of diverse restaurants and nightclubs cater to every taste. Another good venue for shopping is Fort Worth Outlet Square. Though less atmospheric than Sundance Square, it is known for its wide selection of goods.

The major suburbs in Fort Worth are: Arlington, Benbrook, Burleson, Crowley, Edgecliffe, Kennedale, Haltom City, Pantego, Saginaw and Westworth.
