Forbach is a commune in the Moselle department and Lorraine region of north-eastern France. It is set near the German border, just less than 10 miles (15kms) south-west of Saarbrücken. This destination has a history dating from Celtic and Roman times and was the location of a French defeat in 1870, during the Franco-German War.
On the Schlossberg, a hill near the town, are the remnants of a medieval castle which used to be the residence of the counts of Forbach. Today, this area is a municipal park where you will find the symbol of Forbach, the Tower of Schlossberg. The tower was reconstructed in the 14th century, yet destroyed in 1635 during the Thirty Years’ War.
