History

Foggia was a swampy land when it was founded by the Normans in the 11th century and consequently it shared its riches with the Kingdom of Sicily. This city enjoyed its privileges in the period of the Anjous and Aragons. An earthquake almost destroyed the city before it became a part of the Kingdom of Italy in 1860.

Geography

Foggia also known by the name of Puglia lies in the south Italian region of Puglia and is the capital of Foggia province. It is the most important city in the Capitanata plain covering an area of 507 km² at an elevation of 76m. There are over 154,780 inhabitants in Foggia.

Foggia can be reached by airways Milan Malpensa associated with Itali airlines and also reached from the airports of Rome, Naples and Bari, the latter being the closest.
