Getting to Florida

Miami International Airport (MIA), about 12 miles west of downtown is one the USA's busiest. It’s the main US/Latin American gateway, with numerous Caribbean bound flights as well. Most major European airlines have services to Miami, while Asian/Pacific visitors connect via LA.

Less crowded is Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport, with regular connections to many US cities (half an hour from North Miami) , and several non-stop flights from Europe. Both airports have convenient transport options into the city.

Cruise ships regular leave from Miami and Fort Lauderdale, bound for the Caribbean.

Orlando International Airport (MCO), is in the far southeastern corner of the city, and is Florida’s largest (though not the busiest). It offers a myriad of options to US cities, and is served by many European cities, especially for charter and package deals. The best deals are usually to Orlando.

The Florida turnpike and US1 highways run up the panhandle into Georgia (Atlanta) and along the east coast respectively. The highway system is extensive, making access to southern states easy. New Orleans’ is a comfortable drive from Pensacola.

Amtrak and Greyhound buses run along the length of the east coast as far as New York, with several departures daily, though the lengthier bus trips tend to involve several changes en-route.
