History

Ferrara had been ruled over by several families in its initial years of which the Este family is among the most famous. Ferrara developed into a renaissance and art promoting city under the reign of the Este family. After the Este family reign, the city became a part of the Papal States and regained its cultural value in the 1900s.

How to get here?

The train line between Bologna and Venice pass through Ferrara and there is high frequency of these trains. Ferrara is just an hour away from Venice and Ravenna. It can also be reached by road via the highways A13 and A4. Ferrara is easily accessible from airports of Bologna, Verona and Venice.

Geography

Ferrara is a city in the province of Ferrara in the region of Emilia-Romagna. It Is on the banks of one of the distributaries of the Po River, Po di valano and is nearer to Bologna. Ferrara has an area of 404 km² at an elevation of 9m.

The city of Ferrara is well connected by means of transport in any means, be it road, rail or air. City buses and private taxis are available for moving around the city.

Famous for its renaissance sculptures, some of the most important places to be visited while in Ferrara are the Castello Estense, Palazzio del Municipio which was the residence of the Este family, Pallazo dei Diamanti- a beautiful palace, Archivio Storico Communale containing archives of historical documents, Romanesque cathedral and a few other notable cathedrals.
