Ferney-Voltaire is a commune in eastern France, located between the Swiss frontier, near Geneva, and the Jura mountains. The village rapidly expanded after Voltaire purchased the seigniory in 1758. Named the ‘Patriarch of Ferney,’ Voltaire resided here until 1778 building the local church and school and establishing a watch-making industry, potteries and, of course, theatres.
