A small city in the district of the same name, Evora is rich in history and known as a museum city thanks to its myriad of museums. Walking along Evora’s lovely cobbled streets and looking at old palaces will make tourists feel like they are stepping into the past.
The town is home to a plethora of tourist attractions including the city’s cathedral which was built in the 12th century featuring a remarkable main portal with statues of the Apostles and a stunning nave and cloister. The 15th century Covento dos Lóios, which has been revamped into a charming pousada (historic hotel), is also notable.
A particularly exciting option for travellers with car hire is to visit the 2nd century ruins of a Roman temple which was dedicated to the goddess Diana. The main square with its stunning 16th century fountain is also worth visiting.

The main town square, Giraldo Square in the centre of Evora, is where the locals hang out, thus one of the most vibrant areas in Evora. If you are done exploring the town, make your way to the small town of Arraiolos with its beautiful castle built in the 14th century, or head east to the town Redondo where you can sip on local wine and observe stunning monuments.
