Car Hire in Edinburgh - Getting to Edinburgh
Edinburgh's international airport has frequent direct flights to Europe, Ireland and other parts of the UK and a limited number of services to Africa, the Middle East and Asia but there are no direct air services to/from North America. LRT buses run regularly to the centre (35 mins journey).
From UK destinations, its often easier and almost as quick to use the rail networks which have the benefit of leaving you in the city centre upon arrival. Buses are the cheapest and most exhausting method of transport for UK destinations.
Waverley is Edinburghs centrally-located main rail station with convenient hourly services to London via both the east and west coasts. The Rail network thins out the further north you go, but services are regular to Perth and Aberdeen, as well as Glasgow (less than an hour).
Car hire is popular in Scotland, however, central Edinburgh is hilly and full of one-way streets, making navigation and driving tricky. To cross the Firth of Forth and head North, take the A90 westwards and follow it onto the bridge. The M8 heads southwest and the M9 westwards to Glasgow. The A720 skirts the southern suburbs and the A7 takes you to England.
