Car Hire in Dubrovnik - Getting to Dubrovnik
The airport at Dubrovnik, called Cilipi, is located 17kms from the city centre and has regular connections by the national carrier, Croatian Airlines, to Zagreb, where most international flights arrive. There is a regular bus service from the airport into town which takes about 20 minutes. Just outside the main hall of the airport is a taxi rank; drivers will offer you a price for a ride into town, but it's better to insist that the meter be switched on.
Unfortunately, there is no railway station in Dubrovnik, so passengers arriving in the country by train need to continue their journey from Zagreb by coach. There are also coaches arriving from international destinations such as France, Germany and Switzerland.
For exploring the local area, hiring a car is ideal, but the local bus service is very efficient and inexpensive too. The main bus terminal is at Grul', from where you can check information about destination, journey times and fares.
Given the gorgeous colour of the Adriatic Sea, the most romantic way to arrive in or leave Dubrovnik is by boat. The biggest company operating international and local passenger ferry services is Jadrolinija. These ferries are ideal if you want to visit the offshore islands or even do some island-hopping along the coast. Car ferries also connect Dubrovnik with Italy. Ships dock in an area which is about 10 minutes by car or bus from the old town. Taxis are usually available at the pier and there are also buses to the old town.
