Dubrovnik Airport

    Car Hire

Dubrovnik_AirportAlso known as Čilipi Airport, Croatia’s second busiest airport is just under 10 miles from The UNESCO World Heritage city of Dubrovnik and around 22 miles from Herceg Novi (Montenegro). Express buses operate between the airport and Dubrovnik, which takes around 45 minutes, and they terminate at the Kantafig bus station. The most convenient way to arrive into the city and its surrounding coastal towns is with car rental in Dubrovnik Airport, with Dubrovnik being a 10- minute drive northwest along the coast.

    Who to Book With
A number of known international car hire suppliers have counters at the airport, including Hertz, Budget and Avis, as well as Croatian suppliers Bingo Rent and Uni Rent. All car rental firms have offices just outside of the passenger terminal and vehicles are collected from a dedicated car rental car park which can be accessed on foot.

    Need to Know Essentials
You will need to show the following documents at vehicle collection:

    - A credit card to use as guarantee of payment
    - A driver’s license that has been valid for at least two years
    - An international driving permit

    Driving
Parking is difficult to find in the city, especially in the summer months, though many hotels offer parking to their guests. On-street parking is by zone, with each zone having a different rate. To pay for on-street parking purchase a parking ticket at a newsstand, a meter or by mobile phone. There is also a large multi-level indoor car park near the old city. The old city is completely car free, while some other city roads are very narrow. Automatic and full-service pumps are available and both accept credit cards as payment, this includes UK-issued cards though it is best to check with the card issuer first.

See our guide to Croatia for more information on driving here.

    Transport

Passengers arriving at Dubrovnik Airport can access the city quite quickly by self-drive. Express coaches take longer to reach the city, while local buses are the slowest way to get to town. Taxis are available 24 hours but are an expensive option.

    Trains
There are no trains that run from the airport to the city or vice versa. There is only one terminal here so trains within the airport are not necessary. The closest railway station to Dubrovnik is in Ploče, which will connect passengers to Bosnia.

    Taxis
Taxis are on offer at the airport and are met directly outside of the terminal building.

    Taxi prices:
Dubrovnik Airport to Dubrovnik city centre is roughly £35.

    Buses
Coaches run by tour operator Atlas travel from the airport to the city after all international flight arrivals, cost around £5 and take 45 minutes, though this varies depending on traffic. This bus passes the old city before terminating at the main bus terminal. Local Libertas Dubrovnik buses do not actually enter the airport but pass by and stop on the road in front of it. Both the number 27 and 38 do this and take passengers from the airport to Dubrovnik’s port. Bus number 27 operates four times a day, while bus number 30 only operates twice daily. These buses also go in the opposite direction to Radovčići and Vitaljina.
