Dreux is a city in France's northwest Eure-et-Loir département. Originally established as a Gallic outpost under the Roman Empire, Dreux grew into an important medieval city that thrived in spite of constant attacks by Norman forces.

The old city is hemmed in by a moat, and some of the ancient ramparts are still standing. The half-timbered houses found on rue Saint-Pierre date back to the 15th century, while the townhouses on rue Rotrou are slightly younger. The town belfry was constructed in the 16th century by a trio of famous architects. Stylistically, the belfry draws on the then-fading Gothic style and the budding Renaissance movement. This was once the site of the Dreux Town Hall.

Construction on Saint-Pierre Church began in the early 13th century, and the church's architectural style was wholly Gothic. Constant expansion and rebuilding over the centuries have transformed portions of the church so that now it reflects a number of architectural styles. Inside is a striking collection of 15th century stained glass.

The city's other historic church is considerably younger. Begun in 1816, the Chapelle Royale Saint-Louis displays a great deal of stained glass that was manufactured at the Sèvres Factory. Numerous tombs are decorated by effigies that were carved in the 19th century.
