Mini guide to Dinard
Situated opposite St Malo on the coast of Brittany, Dinard is a very popular tourist destination due to its scenic seaside promenades, beautiful beaches and charming atmosphere.
The hilly town radiates from the central, horseshoe-shaped beach. With the exception of the casino, the waterfront is dominated by magnificent Victorian era villas, and long, picturesque promenades stretch along the coastline from both ends of the beach. The eastern promenade climbs up to the Pointe du Moulinet, which affords stunning views of the myriad of islands and inlets, then down through the tranquil exclusive port of Clair de Lune to pretty Plage du Prieure.
The central beach area provides many opportunities for enjoyment. Relax on the beach itself or take part in the many sporting activities available, including swimming, sailing and jet skiing. Alternatively, try your luck in the modern spacious casino, or explore the town for remnants of the original traditional fishing village that existed prior to the discovery of the town in the late 19th century.
With the exception of the casino area, nightlife in Dinard is quite subdued, with most of the restaurants, cafes and bars being located behind the seaside villas, so that there is little activity along the beach itself. The accommodations and restaurants, however, are first-class.
One of the main reasons for Dinards popularity is its proximity to other famous destinations in the Brittany region. Take a boat out to the Channel Islands, just an hour away, or explore the lovely Rance River valley. To the east along the coast lie the magnificent Mont St Michel and the quaint oyster farms of Cancale, while 30 km to the west is the spectacular Cap Frehel.
Direct flights from most world cities are served by Paris Charles de Gaulle International Airport, where connections or alternative transportation arrangements can be made to Dinard.
