Car Rental Dinard - Exploring Dinard
Driving around the Dinard area and the rest of Brittany, you will discover a rugged coastline with small islands and fine old towns with narrow cobbled streets. There are great biking and hiking opportunities in the hinterland.
Just over the bridge from Dinard is the attractive restored port town of St Malo. The town is ideal for strolling and there are some great shops and cafés. Buildings worth seeing include the Cathédrale St Vincent, with its magnificent stained-glass windows, and the castle, which houses the town hall and the city museum.
The Ile de Bréhat, two hours to the west, is a walkers paradise with no roads. Alternatively, a small company offers tours on a tractor and cart, or bikes can be hired locally. The rich flora here astonishes many visitors, who, expecting a windswept island, discover a more Mediterranean climate.
At the highest point of Chapelle St-Michel, you'll be rewarded with a spectacular panoramic view. The tiny island in the Golfe de St Malo is linked by bridge, but youll have to leave the car in Paimpol on the mainland and take one of the ferries that depart every 30 minutes.
To the south of Dinard on the N137 is the well-preserved town of Rennes. The capital of Brittany since Roman times, it has countless examples of architecture from the 16th century onwards. Rennes has three outstanding museums all worth seeing: the Musée des Beaux Arts, Musée de Bretagne and the Ecomusée du Pays de Rennes.
Rennes is also a young and lively city, with the main nightlife and bar culture being centred on the older area to the north of the cathedral on rues St Michel and St Malo. For restaurants and quieter areas, take a look around the old quarter near the cathedral, and also rue St Georges near the parliament.
