Car Hire in Detroit - Getting to Detroit
Detroit is the base for Northwest Airlines, operating out of Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, 20 miles southwest of the centre. Its a busy airport with regular services to many major US cities. It is also a regional hub for inbound European flights. Most Michigan destinations use Detroit as the primary air terminal. Shuttle service and buses from the airport to downtown Detroit are frequent and reliable, operating regularly from 6am to midnight, with fewer services beyond these times.
The Chicago-bound train stops in Ann Arbor. Amtrak rail network in the US is extensive and there are direct services from Detroit to the east and west coast, daily. Services to Chicago are even more regular, stopping off at Ann Arbor.
Greyhound provides bus services to more than 40 cities throughout Michigan, including destinations in the Upper Peninsula, as well as to other Midwest states. Its the cheapest but least comfortable means of travel, particularly over long distances.
