Car Hire in Denmark - Getting to Denmark
Copenhagens International Airport is the main gateway to Denmark even though it isnt very central. Being so close to the rest of Scandinavia, it handles much of the regions long-haul traffic, with regular trans-Atlantic flight and routes to selected Asian-Pacific destinations, and frequent connections from European hubs (Frankfurt, Amsterdam and London). Airports at Billund (for Legoland), Esbjerg and Rønne also handle some European flights.
The Øresundsfordindelsen (Øresund Fixed Link) linked Scandanavia with Europe after the tunnels completion in 2000, and Malmo is now less than 30 minutes by car or train. Buses run frequently from the central station in Copenhagen and other centres to destinations throughout Europe and Scandinavia.
Its more practical to get to Jutland by bus, car or train when traveling from Germany, the Netherlands or Northern France. The road network is well established despite the many waterways and islands, making it easy to drive to Germany and the rest of Europe. Traffic isnt too bad, and driving is safe.
It's also possible to arrive from Norway and Sweden by ferry. Other boat options are the daily (high season) and weekly ferries running from Germany (Kiel, Rostock, Puttgarden, Sassnitz-Mukran and the island of Sylt), Iceland (Seydisfjördur), Norway (Oslo, Kristiansand, Bergen and Larvik), Sweden (Helsingborg, Gothenburg, Varberg and Malmö), Poland (Sáwinoujácie) and the UK (Harwich).
