Ribe, on Jutlands west coast, is the most historic of Denmarks towns, with an impressive Viking and medieval history. Its a virtual museum, with Ribe Cathedral offering good views from its 14th-century tower. Ribe Vikinger is a huge museum full of life-like Viking scenes. Closer to Copenhagen, Trelleborg gives a similar insight into the life and times of this fearsome ancient tribe, with remnants of Viking ring fortresses.
North-west of Copenhagen is one of Denmarks finest castles at Hillerød - Frederiksborg Slot. This well furnished Dutch Renaissance castle is beautifully located on a lake. Egeskov Castle, on Funan island, is an equally impressive Renaissance gem with a lake and beautiful 15-hectare park comprising of English gardens, a 200-year old maze and roaming wildlife.
The small island of Møn, to the south of Zeeland, has striking chalk cliffs at Møns Klint, nice beaches and lovely forests, some medieval churches and an unhurried atmosphere.
Fun for the whole family is had at Legoland, on Jutland. It is Denmarks most visited attraction, and is constructed out of 42 million plastic pieces.
Christiansø is a beautifully preserved 17th-century island fortress, free of cars, with a wildlife refuge and several medieval buildings. Similarly Ærø is a forgotten island full of farms, thatched houses, old windmills and ancient passage graves and dolmens. Tourist-free Ærøskøbing has been preserved as a 17th century merchant town.
Skagen, on Jutlands northern tip, is popular among locals in the summer, largely due to its beaches, dunes and relaxed atmosphere.
