Car Hire Denia - Mini guide to Denia
Dedicated by the Romans to the Goddess Diana, Denia is a marvellous blend of nature, history and festivity.
The town is a melting pot of ancient architecture, with influences from the Iberians, Romans, Carthagians, Arabs and Christians. The most prominent structure is a 16th century Muslim castle on a hilltop crowning the town. Here there is an excellent view of Denia and its surrounds. The castle houses a fascinating Museum of Archaeology. Other remarkable monuments are the 18th century church of the Asuncion, the 17th century dockyards, the church of San Antonio and the neoclassical town hall. The energetic may wish to tackle Mount Montgo, which rises above Denia and offers breathtaking views and a nature reserve with over 600 species of flora and fauna.
Denia's beaches provide an ideal family day out, with a wide range of water sports to choose from: swimming, sailing, diving, fishing and windsurfing. Hang-gliding, mountain climbing, mountain biking, hiking and golf are also popular. Party lovers will be delighted with the festivals peppering the calendar. Denia is a shopper's dream, with its beautiful gift shops and designer boutiques. It is known for its myriad of lively nightspots, great tapas bars and diverse restaurants. Two small palaces have been converted into the Restaurant Tossalet del Carme and Hotel Restaurant Buenavista.
A Safari Park lies at Vergel, 15 minutes from Denia. Spain's biggest theme park, Terra Mitica, is a 40-minute drive south at Benidorm. The Balearic Islands of Ibiza, Mallorca and Menora are only a 3-hour journey away.
