Car Hire Deauville - Mini guide to Deauville

Situated in Normandy, the glamorous seaside resort of Deauville lies on the Côte Fleurie opposite Trouville. Fashionable with the rich and famous and renowned for its high living, high spending image, it’s the home of a racecourse, glamorous casino and an abundance of luxury hotels.

There are plenty of activities to do on Deauville’s beaches, such as walk the Planches, a mile-long wooden duckboard pathway which runs along the back of the colourful beach. The annual Grand Prix attracts hordes of tourists in August, as does the American Film Festival in September.

The big spenders might want to have a flutter on the horses, then if you’re still in the money, cross five streets and try your luck in the casino. For total relaxation and comfort you might want spoil yourself in the sports and ‘cure’ facilities and private swimming huts that adjoin the beach.

There are plenty of places to eat and drink at along the coast, ranging from the high priced resorts to some more modest places on the beachfront. There’s also a market in Deauville which opens on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Further afield, 15kms down the cost is the chic town of Trouville. Trouville is not quite as touristy as its neighbour. However, it still remains a lovely resort and attracts a myriad of visitors to its vibrant bars and restaurants.

There are 6 to 10 daily rail connections from Paris's Gare St-Lazare (duration: 2 hours). The station is located between Trouville and Deauville, south of the town, and is serviced by taxis. Bus Verts du Calvados serves the Normandy coast from Caen to Le Havre. When driving from Paris, take A13 west to Pont L'Evêque, then follow N177 east to Deauville.
