Wallace Heights and Shannon Park are former military housing areas in the north of Dartmouth.

Natal Day is a large celebration in Dartmouth since August 1895. The Natal Day was brought about to celebrate the coming of the trains to Dartmouth, but the construction wasn't complete until later that year, but this day is treated as the official day for its celebration regardless. There is a cairn (an artificially arranged pile of stones) created in the year 1941, which celebrates the day, inscribed with the words, “Alderney on August 12th, 1750 with 353 settlers.”

Also important to Dartmouth’s history are the ferries which travel across the harbour. After the bridge was built in 1955, there were not as much need for them, but they continued service as a reminder. The first ferry service was a large rowing boat and passengers were called to board by a large conch shell. Later, in 1860, the ferry passengers were pulled by the power of 8 horses. Steam eventually replaced the horses.

Dartmouth is located on either Highway 102 or Highway 118. Both lead to opposing sections of Dartmouth. Highway 102 to the southwest and Highway 118 to the northeast. Going south on Highway 188 means you will see the highway change to Highway 111. Highway 103 also branches away from Dartmouth.
