Cactoblastis moths, whose larvae feed on Prickly Pear, were introduced when sprays and other traditional methods of pest control had no effect. Within ten years, the moths had eradicated the Prickly Pear and allowed Dalby to continue as a farming community.

Aside from the memorial cairn, attractions in and around Dalby include walking trails and parks. The Regional Art Gallery is located in Dalby and is known for showcasing an exceptional selection of modern Australian art. Dalby is also home to the Australian Cottonweek Festival held every year in March. The Pioneer Park Museum is an excellent destination for those interested in local history. An exceptionally large collection of vintage farming equipment, semi-annual events, Dalby Spinners and Weavers, as well as a craft store are all part of the museum experience.
