Prague is the main gateway to the Czech Republic if youre arriving by air. It has two airports, but almost all international flights arrive at Ruzyne airport, 10kms northwest of the city. More than 20 airlines arrive here from European and Trans-Atlantic destinations as well as selected Asian cities. Minibus shuttles run directly to namesti Republiky (square) and Evropska metro station, there are also several inconvenient bus options to various points around the city. Taxis are numerous. Karlovy Vary is a smaller domestic airport with a few regional flights to neighbouring countries. Internal flights are available within the Czech Republic, with regular connections between Prague-Ostrava and Prague-Brno. Other cities have limited European routes.
The Czech Republic is centrally located in Europe, so its often easier to arrive by train or bus from Vienna, Budapest, Munich, Berlin and Warsaw. Trains also run daily between Prague and most major European cities; including Paris and Amsterdam, exiting the border at 18 points. Czech Railways (CD) provides a cheap, efficient service, but buses can be faster and cheaper. The country is quite hilly, slowing down journeys.
The roads to the borders are good, safe and not too crowded, with more that 30 painless border crossings into Germany, Poland, Austria and Slovakia. There are quick and efficient routes to Vienna, Bratislava, and Germany.
