Car Hire in Croatia - Getting to Croatia
With so many tourists bound for the Dalmatia coast, Zagrebs international airport has flights arriving from most European cities, and a few trans-Atlantic flights. Situated 17kms southeast of Zagreb, the airport has plenty of taxis and a regular bus service into the centre. Dometic connections to the coast are frequent.
Trains connect Zagreb to Hungary, Slovenia, Yugoslavia, Italy, Germany, Austria, and Bosnia-Hercegovina. The rail service is a little dated but reliable and usually on-time. Northwards the route winds its way through the Julian Alps, a slow but picturesque journey.
Many European visitors arrive by bus Bus or car. Buses depart regularly to destinations throughout Europe, as far away as Amsterdam and Brussels. By car you must pass through lovely Slovenia (via the Alps), making it easy and popular with Austrians and Germans. Crossings are numerous, though stick to the main ones to avoid the suspicious Soviet mentality of border guards.
Ferries link Croatia to Greece and Italy, arriving at Split, Dubronik and several smaller coastal towns.
