Car Hire Coventry - Mini guide to Coventry

Beautifully located in the West Midlands of central England, Coventry abounds with magnificent architecture, superb museums, and picturesque countryside.

Coventry Cathedral was rebuilt in 1962 adjacent to the site of the original 14th-century edifice, which was almost completely destroyed by bombs during World War II. The outer walls and spire remained standing and were left as a memorial of the war. The new cathedral provides a rare opportunity to see major works by prominent 20th century artists. Visit the site of the city's first Cathedral, St Mary's, founded by Lady Godiva and Earl Leofric and demolished in the 16th century. The Priory Gardens and Cloisters, part of the Phoenix Initiative, is a haven of peace and tranquility, right in the heart of the city centre. Also on the site is the Priory Visitor Centre, which tells the story of the Benedictine Priory of St Mary’s, using objects discovered during the archaeological excavation of the site.

Other notable buildings in Coventry include Holy Trinity Church (13th century), St Mary's Hall (the finest medieval guildhall in Britain), the Whitefriars Museum (1342), Ford's Hospital (1570s), and an automobile museum with the finest collection of British built cars and cycles in the world, including the world’s fastest car.

Coventry has numerous quality accommodation and excellent restaurants. Nightlife is vibrant, with dozens of bars, pubs and clubs offering varieties to suit all tastes.

Coventry and Warwickshire is a perfect city and country combination. A short drive through Warwickshire countryside will take you out to the famous castles of Kenilworth and Warwick, Shakespeare's Stratford Upon Avon and a host of other pretty Warwickshire villages.

Birmingham International Airport is approximately 20 minutes away from central Coventry, and is the ideal gateway for overseas visitors. However, Gatwick and Heathrow are within a two-hour drive for those wishing to take in the pleasant English countryside on their way to the region. Trains depart every half hour from London Euston station. Coventry is within easy reach of several midlands motorways with the M6 Junctions 2 and 3 giving the easiest.
