Car Hire in Corsica - Getting to Corsica

Corsica is not the easiest place to get to as it's not on any of the major air routes, so you need to get a connecting flight from continental Europe. Most flights go via a French connecting airport; Nice is the closest.

Ajaccio, Bastia, Calvi and Figari are all serviced with modern airports. Airport taxes can be quite expensive (up to 190FF) because you pay for both departure and arrival. Despite having four airports, there are no internal flights on Corsica.

Train travel around the island is rather limited, with journeys restricted to the main Bastia-Ajaccio via Corte line and the Ponte Leccia-ele Rousse-Algajola-Calvi spur.

Buses run between all the major towns on the island and even some of the smaller ones. However, departures are irregular and infrequent.

Driving yourself around offers the most flexibility, although you need to be on the lookout for narrow roads, blind hairpin bends, and traffic jams in the smaller towns.

Ferries reach Corsica from France (3 hours on the high-speed ferry), depating from Nice, Marseille, Toulon, and several other mainland ports. It’s necessary to book ahead in high season.
