Car Hire in Corfu - Getting to Corfu
Corfu is joined to the mainland by a causeway, and receives a lot of traffic from the regular Brindisi ferries, so cars arent a novelty here. Most visitors arrive on package deals or charter flights, otherwise regular flights arrive via Athens as there are few scheduled international flights. There are airports on Corfu, Kefallonia, Zakynthos and Kythira. Connections to Athens in the summer are frequent and there are limited services to Italy.
The ferries from Brindisi (Italy) arrive thick and fast in the summer (up to 4 a day), making it the easiest island to drive to from Europe. Ferries also sail to Bari, Ancona, Trieste and Venice.
You can catch a bus from several of the Ionian islands to Athens and Thessalonika. Services also run to Patras (where the Brindisi ferry terminates). From the Peloponnese there are sailings from: Patras to Kefallonia, Ithaki, Paxi and Corfu; Kyllini for ferries to Kefallonia and Zakynthos; and Piraeus, Neapoli and Gythio for Kythira. You can also sail from Crete to Kythira, from Igoumenitsa (in Epiros) to Corfu and Paxi, and from Astakos (Sterea Ellada) to Ithaki and Kefallonia.
