Car Hire Conegliano - Mini guide to Conegliano

In the Trevisio province, in the region of Veneto, lies the town and municipality of Conegliano. Conegliano is home to a well known wine school, the most prestigious in all Italy, and indeed Conegliano is famous for its wine, most notably the dry white Prosecco. Prosecco comes in three varieties: still (tranquillo), slightly sparkling (frizzante) and sparkling (spumante). The wine Prosecco is made from the grape of the same name.

Many famous people have been born in Conegliano, in particular its namesake Cima da Conegliano, a painter. Artwork by him is found in the cathedral, built in 1492. Overlooking the cathedral are the remains of a castle, some 1000 years old, and once owned by the Bishop of Vittorio Veneto. The museum of Conegliano is now located in the remaining tower.

The capital of the region of Veneto is Venice, and what was once the Venetian Republic and a scene of mass immigration, is now one of the wealthiest and most industrialised areas of Italy. With 13.5 million tourists each year, Veneto is the most visited region of Italy.

This is helped by Veneto’s historical, artistic and natural beauty. Home to Verona, of Romeo and Juliet fame (and also listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site) and Padua (‘City of the Saint’, also a World Heritage Site), it is easy to see why Veneto is so popular. Home-made winemaking in Veneto is popular, and together with cheeses and olives, fresh and cured meats, and various cereals vegetables and fruits, these make a great holiday spot for the foodie. Veneto is also home to one of the oldest universities in the world at Padua, the second oldest in Italy (after the university at Bologna).

One of the most scenic and peaceful thermal baths in Veneto are to be found at Abano Terme, and well worth a look-in. Plan to spend a while soaking in the hot water, and let the worries simmer away! The province of Trevisio has its capital in the city of Trevisio. There are 95 municipalities, of which Conegliano is one, and has the second largest population (the first being the capital).
