Car Hire Comiso - Mini guide to Comiso
Comiso is a municipality in the island of Sicily, Province of Ragusa. The town is situated in the southern part of Sicily, about 20 km from Ragusa. You may reach Comiso by train as it lies on the Siracusa-Licata line.
The ancient history of Comiso is related with Greece, as this is a former Greek colony, established by Syracuse around 6th century B.C. Two times the town was completely destroyed: in the 2nd century B.C. by the Romans and in the 17th century as a consequence of an earthquake. Many of the old sights, related with the Byzantium Empire, like the monasteries of St. Nicolň and Saint Blaise turned into ruins. After the earthquake Comiso was rebuilt on the same spot, but already in the Sicilian Baroque style.
Being in Comiso you may enjoy simple, but tasty food in the local restaurants as the area is known with wine and vegetables production. It is worth the effort to look for car hire and make an enjoyable sightseeing under the blue sky of Sicily. You may observe the work of craftsman in the region, known with marble work, cabinet making and smithery. And, of course, you may visit the local sight, like the Roman hot springs, preserved since the 2nd century.
Very interesting place to visit is the Peace Pagoda, inaugurated in 1998. With this monument the town of Comiso joins the group of more than 80 cities in the world, which have built Peace Pagodas. These monuments are symbols of the union and people search for world peace.
