Getting to Cologne
The international airport Koln-Bonn is situated half way between Cologne and Bonn, and has connecting flights to many trans-Atlantic and European cities, as well as ongoing flights to regional destinations. Trains run regularly between the Airport and the Hauptbahnhof (central train station), which is within easy walking distance of many sights, pubs and hotels.The airport bus no. 170 goes to the Cologne central station, leaving at 20-minute intervals. Buses serve as a reliable way to get around the city, and offer economical daily and 3-day passes. A taxi ride from the airport to the city centre takes about 20 minutes and will cost around 40 DM.
Trains depart regularly from the Hauptbahnhof to destinations throughout Germany and there are nonstop services to many European centers. Buses also services many destinations throughout Germany and ply longhaul routes across the European mainland.
Driving in Cologne is made easy by the concentric rings; the outer-most is the Autobahnring and from here the main arterials go inwards towards the city. Signs lead clearly to the Dom and the central station, where you can find underground parking.
