Clacton-on-Sea is a fun-filled seaside resort town in Essex, where the fresh air, walks along the beach, and the fairground amusements at the Victorian pier make it a popular place to visit while in southeastern England.
The unspoilt beaches and seven-mile promenade are Clacton-on-Seas main attractions. The 19th century pier with numerous fairground rides, arcades, restaurants and a sea aquarium also draws locals and visitors alike.
Along the promenade are beautiful gardens, a lifeboat station, Crazy Golf, and many places to walk free of traffic. The Holland Haven Country Park, with its lovely coastal marshes, footpaths through meadows and cliff-top walks, is an ideal place to spend a day experiencing the areas beautiful coastline.
Pubs, restaurants and cafés abound in the town, while the pier boasts a wide variety of places to eat. Farmers markets and carboot sales open on weekends and bank holidays are excellent places to shop for unusual and unique items. Alternatively, if youd like to soak up some sun, sunbathe on Clacton-on-Seas fine sandy beaches.
Exploring the scenic countryside should also be put on your agenda. Only a few minutes drive from the town is the Park Fruit Farm, where you can pick your own fruit as well as purchase many different varieties of apples, plums and pears. Or if youd like to play a few rounds of golf, visit the Clinton-on-Sea or Fricton golf clubs, only a few miles away.
The journey from London to Clacton-on-Sea takes about two hours by car via the A12, then the A120 and finally the A133. Trains leave every hour from London Liverpool Street station (duration 90 minutes).
