Car Hire City Airport - Mini guide to City Airport
City AirportSave Airport was established in 1940 as a military facility. The facility was shut down in 1969 and in the late seventies work began to take on aviation from Landvetter, Goteborg's major airport.
In the mid-1980s, work began to alter the airport to accommodate larger aircrafts. In 2001, the length of the runway was extended by four-hundred meters. Ryanair provided its first service to London and has continued since then to expand their service at the airport with regular service not only to London, but to other cities such as Glasgow and Frankfurt as well.
LVF came on as a partner in the operation company of the airport in coalition with the Municipality of Goteborg and Volvo at the turn of the century. The name of the airport was changed to Goteborg City Airport.
To get to the Goteborg City Airport by car, simply follow the road signs that read City Airport for all of the major roads around the city. If you are traveling to the airport from smaller roads, you may need to follow the symbol of the aircraft and signs that read Save.
There are major car hire agencies with offices at the Goteborg City Airport such as Sixt, Hertz, Europcar and Avis. Car hire is the easiest and most convenient way to see Goteborg.
There are over a thousand parking spaces available next to the airport terminal building for private cars. The parking is divided into short-term and long-term. The long-term parking area is enclosed within gates that are locked each night. Unfortunately, you may not book a space for parking in advance.
