Christchurch Airport is the International link to the South Island of New Zealand, a location renowned for its beautiful landscapes and exciting outdoor sporting activities. The airport is situated 12km from downtown Christchurch city and is served by public bus. There are daily departures to domestic and regional destinations, as well as numerous flights serving international and transatlantic destinations.
Christchurch has two terminals, domestic and international. Both terminals are connected internally and there are domestic transfer check-in counters located in the International Arrivals area.
The International Terminal is open for all flight arrivals and departures whilst the Domestic Terminal is open from 0730-2000. ATMs are widely available across the terminal. Refreshment is provided by bars and restaurants distributed around both terminals. The Gallery Café and Cityside Café are two pleasant cafés on hand.
The international atrium provides duty-free and other outlets, including gallery boutiques located by the departures lounge. A smaller variety of shops are available in the domestic terminal.
If you have an hour or so to spare, take a stroll across to the visitor centre of New Zealand's International Antarctic Centre, it's less than 10 minutes from the terminal buildings.
Fax, photocopying and postal facilities are provided by the travel and information centres. Baggage storage is also available from 0730-2000. The International Antarctic Visitors Centre and the Grand Chancellor Sudima Hotel (Tel: (0) 3 358 3139) both offer conference and business facilities.
Facilities for travellers with special needs include lifts, wheelchair access, and automatic doors. Accessible toilets and showers are provided for those with mobility difficulties. Those with vision problems are aided by Braille keys on ATMs. Special parking spaces are located at the front of the public car-parking area.
Information centres are at hand in the Domestic Terminal and International Arrivals lounge. As well as offering information and bookings for local accommodation and tours, the facility now provides a full travel agency service and can arrange any further international or domestic travel and holiday plans.
