Car Hire in Chateauroux Rail Station
Mini guide to Chateauroux Rail Station
Chateauroux Rail Station
Situated along the Paris-Limoges rail line between Orléans and Limoges, Chateauroux is a modest town in central France. Just over 150 miles south of Paris, the journey on a regional train from Paris Austerlitz to Chateauroux takes around two hours. Chateauroux is located in a beautiful natural setting surrounded by farmland, ponds and parks.
The Bertrand Museum dates back to the 19th century, when it was owned by General Bertrand, a close friend of Napoléon Bonaparte. The museum now holds an exhibit about these two good friends as well as a medieval section, 19th and 20th century art, and a Gallic section.
The nearby 12th century St Martial church is unique with its single nave. The Renaissance style bell tower was added in the 15th century. The 19th century Notre Dame church is more modern, though built on the site of the old Raoul Castle, and boasts some wonderful architecture.
Chateauroux’s gorgeous surroundings beg to be explored, making car hire an appealing option. Rent a car at the local rail station and drive out of the city to view the expanses of cereal farms and the Brenne, known as the ‘country of the thousand ponds.’ We recommend you book car rental online, where unbeatable rates are offered.
