Car Hire in Chania - Getting to Chania
Chania is situated on the northwestern coast of Crete. The city is surrounded by countryside and some of the island's most fertile agricultural land, with the stunning grandeur of the White Mountains as a backdrop.
Chania Airport is located 16kms from the town in Akrotiri and is served by public buses and taxis. Olympic Airways offers at least three flights daily to and from Athens in the high season. Olympic also has one flight weekly to and from Thessaloniki. Aegean Airlines offers a few flights weekly to and from Athens. There is also an airport at Iraklion.
By sea, there is a daily sailing between Piraeus port and Chania, usually leaving early in the evening. The ferry arrives at and departs from Soudha, a 20-minute bus ride from the stop outside the municipal market. In the busy season, bookings are heavy, so advance reservations are essential.
Buses connecting Chania to Rethymnon and Iraklion run hourly from early morning until about 22:30. There are less frequent buses to destinations in western Crete. The main bus station is at 25 Kidonias.
