Champaign, Illinois is a city located west of Indianapolis, Indiana and south of Chicago. This city is home to more than 75,000 and is also the home of the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Urbana is the sibling city to Champaign.

The oldest building in the city is the First Presbyterian Church of Champaign, built in 1850. It is the oldest church in town and is located in the city’s historic neighbourhood.
The official city of Champaign was established in 1855 when the railroad cam through. The Illinois Central Railroad laid track two miles west of the downtown area of Urbana. The city was originally named West Urbana because of this, but renamed itself after the county that it was in when it was chartered in 1860.
Some of the proud historical moments that took place in Champaign was that it was the first site for a Farm Aid concert in 1985 and that it was also the site of the 2005 National Science Olympiad Tournament. It will host this tournament again in 2010.
Champaign is also home to Parkland College and is has a Kraft food plant as a major employer. There is also many large technology and software companies that are located in the city. Most of the companies focus on the research and development of new technologies.
