Car Hire Cavaillon- IKC - Mini guide to Cavaillon- IKC
Cavaillon is a quaint little town that sits on the right bank of the Durance and at the edge of the Montagne du Lubéron. It is famously where Saint Veran acted as bishop during the 6th century. It is also famous for its melon growing and its canning industry.
Cavaillon has been the sister town of Weinheim, Germany, since 1958. Whilst, at first glance, it is not as picturesque as some towns you might see, you could stop the hire car and explore the area and you will be glad you did as there are some very pretty features indeed.
Below the cliffs toward the end of the Cours Bournissac stand some Roman arches as well as the Office de Tourisme. If you travel up some of the smaller streets by the Cours Gambetta, you can catch a glimpse of the 12th century Canal St Julien which transports water all the way into the town. Those who enjoy walking might want to partake in the walking tour: there is no map and no guide, just signposts, you and your walking boots. See if you can spot the aged sundial high on the wall of the cathedral for an extra architectural delight.
The Judeo Comtadin Museum can be found near an equally splendid eighteenth century synagogue. The museum was built on the foundations of the old bakery and contains relics from the original fourteenth century synagogue.
There are also many activities to enjoy and you can sign up to go rock climbing and hiking further afield, so make sure to check the Office de Tourisme for further details on those activities and more.
