Car Hire in Carmel - Mini guide to Carmel
Carmel ( or its official name, Carmel-by-the-Sea) is a small town that is located on the Monterey Peninsula in Montery County, California. Carmel is known to be a haven for artists, writers, and poets. In 1960 a newspaper in San Francisco devoted a full page ad to the citizens of Carmel. In 1910, sixty percent of the houses were reported dot have been built by those who were devoted to the work of aesthetic arts. Many mayors of the city have also been part of this group, including the Herbert Heron and Clint Eastwood. The town has a population of just over 4,000 people.
Carmel is located 330 miles north of Los Angeles and 120 miles south of San Francisco. The town began as a settlement of Native Americans and the first people after that were the Spanish.
Today, the town is still booming with artists, poets and writers. There is the Golden Bough Playhouse, where the Pacific Repertory Theatre calls home. There is also the Carmel Arts and Crafts Club, established in 1905. These are both historic and monumental buildings in the town. They once served as a haven for artists, and still perform that function today. There are many other theatres in town too where you can catch many performances throughout the year.
Another great place to visit in Carmel is the Hawk Tower. It began in 1920 and was built by the poet who wanted to build a retreat for his wife and family. Jeffers built the tower completely on his own, and is a great site.
