This is surely a must see for any budding geologist or for someone with an interest in nature. And, just two miles away, is Europe’s biggest sand dune, the Pilat Dune. It measures around 2,700 miles; about five hundred meters wide and 104 meters high. It is such an impressive and ever changing site as both the wind and sea currents shift and mould its shape, changing it daily.

For those whose thoughts are firmly set on food, Cap Ferret is renowned for its oysters that are, somewhat unique to the area, said to be low in fat and not near as salty; they instead carry the freshness of the ocean in their tender bodies with a tangy, iodine like taste that the oyster farmers claim is superior to all others.

There are also an abundance of restaurants, such as the maritime Pinasse Café as well as the rebuilt Chez Hortense, which serves very tasty mussels and chips in a fisherman's cottage atmosphere.
