One of the best known and most popular travel destinations in Mexico, Cancun features pristine beaches, turquoise waters, high quality accommodation and a vibrant nightlife. Most people visit Cancun for its pristine tropical beaches, and two of the most popular public beaches are Playa Tortugas and Chacmool. South of Chacmool are the less crowded beaches of Playa Marlin and Playa Delfines.

Opposite the El Pueblito hotel lies the Ruins of the King, which has been incorporated into the Caesar Park Beach and Golf Resort complex.

The Museo Arqueológico de Cancun, a small but interesting museum with relics from archaeological sites around the state, is worth a visit. Also, the Casa de Cultura hosts local cultural events such as art exhibits, dance performances, plays and concerts throughout the year.

Cancun offers a wealth of shopping opportunities. The main street of Avenida Tulum contains a multitude of shops and restaurants. Ki Huic is the largest crafts market in the city, while Avenida Yaxchilán is a great place to bargain for local goods.
