Car Rental Cancun - Exploring Cancun
Cancun is a convenient distance from the more traditional resorts of Isla Mujeres, Playa del Carmen and Cozumel. Isla Mujeres, a small island eight ????off Cancun, offers tranquil beaches, a rich cultural heritage and a pleasant retreat from its bustling neighbour. Additionally, visitors can enjoy the unforgettable experience of swimming with dolphins. Ferries run to the island from Cancun daily.
Daytrips to Xel-Ha National Park are readily available and very convenient from Cancun. Xel-Ha is a national park which has been converted into a water theme park built around a collection of natural lagoons and inlets. The park offers a range of water activities, primarily based around snorkelling, although you can also float down the river in a ring, dive under water with a special helmet attached to an air hose, and swim with dolphins. There are also five restaurants and a bar.
The city of Merida is about a five-hour drive by car. This town contains beautiful Spanish Baroque architecture and a lively central market where local Mayan women sell their wares. Numerous Mariachi Bands also perform here frequently.
Cancun is located on the lush and historically significant Yucatan peninsula. The spectacular Maya ruins at Tulum, Chichén-Itzá, and Cobá are within close driving distance and make amazing daytrips. Tulum's limestone temples are part of the largest coastal city that the Mayans built. The temples at Chichén-Itzá portray the ancient astrological wisdom of the Mayans. The cove of Xel-Ha and the ecological theme park Xcaret are also worth visiting.
