Car Rental The Canary Islands - Exploring The Canary Islands
The three main islands in the Canary Islands are Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Tenerife.
Lanzarote is a small island best discovered by car. On its south side is the Cesar Manrique Foundation, a must-see, being the custodian of the works of Lanzarotes most famous artist.
On the southern coast El Golfo is one of the few rare examples of hydro-volcanism, La Laguna de los Ciclos, a lake of the most intense green, formed by algae has emerged in the middle of this crater and is truly a sight to behold.
All along the coastline of Gran Canaria there are towns and villages to suit all tastes, from quiet villages such as Puerto de Mógan, to the glitz and thriving day & night life of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana district.
Golden beaches are mainly found on the south-eastern side of the island. Playa del Ingles and Perto Rico are notable if youre looking for fun while the barren dunes of Maspalomas are interesting.
Tenerife is one of the most popular of the Canary Islands. Several small rivers originate in the mountains of the island. In the northeast is Pinar de la Esperanza, a eucalyptus and pine forest. The volcanic Mount Teide is the highest point and occupies the main part of the island.
Other natural wonders to visit by car include the Cliffs of Los Gigantes, the Anaga Mountains and Pyramids at Güimar. Not forgetting, of course the numerous beaches, Playa de las Américas being a particular favourite.
