Car Hire in Canada
Getting to Canada
Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal and Halifax are the main entrance points for overseas visitors, other centres have frequent flights from various US destinations and a few in Mexico and the Caribbean. Vancouver International Airport (currently undergoing additional construction) is just south of the city and is a hub of domestic and international flights. Flights to Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles are regular. Montréal's main airport, Dorval, is west of the city centre with frequent flights to Europe. Toronto has two airports: Pearson, Canadas busiest, is for international flights and Toronto City Centre Airport services domestic routes (also US).
By rail, the major non-stop routes are: New York-Montreal, New York-Toronto and Chicago-Toronto, run by VIA (Canadian rail network). From Vancouver, Amtrak runs south to Seattle and along the west coast.
Greyhound also operates in Canada, with a good network running from all major and border cities to the US, but its the least comfortable means of travel, especially over long distances.
The Road network in Canada is on a par with the US, well developed along the southern border region with numerous, fluid, crossings into the States. The presence of the Great Lakes however, often makes routes inconvenient.
Numerous ferries cross the various lakes between important centres.
