Car Hire Cala Ratjada - Mini guide to Cala Ratjada

CALA RATJADA, MALLORCA, SPAIN Nature Meets City Life in Cala Ratjada

You love nature walks but he loves the nightlife? You love shopping and he loves to lounge on the beach? Never fear, there is a place you both can have a wonderful vacation.

Cala Ratjada’s blend of pristine nature and cosmopolitan amenities do not clash but rather blend, making a multi-faceted vacation. This town on the island of Mallorca, Spain, is situated on a hilly peninsula, tucked in a well-protected cove. Originally, Cala Ratjada (“bay of rays”) was a small fishing village and has only fairly recently been discovered by German, British, and French tourists seeking a fun and relaxing holiday.

Five beaches are within an easy walk of Cala Ratjada. The main beach, Son Moll stretches for a tenth of a mile, dotted with sun beds and umbrellas. If you don’t mind crowds, this is probably the closest beach to where you will be staying. A short walk away is the smaller Cala Gat, complete with an open-air bar.

If you want more seclusion, take a walk along the coastal path to Cala Mesquida. The hour and a half walk runs through uninhabited pine forests, ending up at this environmentally protected beach. Golden sands slope gently away to clear turquoise waters. Take a romantic lunch and spend the day.

Two other beaches, Cala Agulla and Cala Guya, are a short walk away from each other. Cala Agulla is a smaller U-shaped cove, its sandy beach ringed by rocky headlands. Cala Guya has a longer white sand beach. No matter which of the Cala Ratjada’s five beaches you choose, they are all considered the best beaches on Mallorca.

After spending the day snorkeling or relaxing on the beach, you might want to check out the nightlife. Cala Ratjada has no shortage of bars, clubs, restaurants, and discos. In fact, some of the over 40 hotels can be a bit noisy at night. If noise is not your thing, try renting an apartment or cottage. Want to really splurge? Rent one of Cala Ratjada’s gorgeous private villas.

Cala Ratjada on Mallorca has a little bit of something for everyone. Be sure to book your vacation early, especially if you plan to go in the high season from July to September.
