Car Hire Cairo Airport - Mini guide to Cairo Airport
Egypts main gateway is Cairo International Airport. There are non-stop flights from most major African, Asian, North America and European cities to Cairo International, and it is situated in Heliopolis, 22km northeast of central Cairo. Despite the numbers of tourists arriving every year, the airport isnt terribly modern or comfortable, with inadequate conveniences.
There are two terminals in the airport, connected by a courtesy shuttle bus. The bus runs around the clock, leaving the terminals every 30 minutes. Terminal 1 is known as the Old Airport, while Terminal 2 is called the New Airport.
Bank and ATMs are available at the airport and a 24-hour bureau de change and post office are situated in the Departures hall at both terminals.
A basic restaurant is available in the airport and there is a bar in the Departures halls of both terminals. However, there are inadequate facilities in the public areas (pre security), and passengers are not permitted to check in more than an hour early, so you are advised not to arrive too early.
Gift shops, clothes shops, bookshops and newsagents, are available in the Departures halls of both terminals and in the new transit hall. Duty-free shops are situated at arrivals and departure of both terminals.
Porters and baggage trolleys are available as are left luggage facilities, located in both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. A pharmacy is located in the Departures hall in terminals 1 and 2.
A business centre is available in Terminal 1, linked by an escalator to the new transit hall. Business facilities and conference facilities are also provided by the Novotel Cairo Airport Hotel (tel: (0)2 918 520).
Passengers with special needs should contact their airline for assistance, while wheelchairs are available on request. Disabled toilets are available, but there are no designated parking spaces for disabled drivers.
You will find information counters in both Terminal 1 (Old Airport) and Terminal 2 (New Airport), in both Arrivals and Departures halls and also in the new transit hall.
