Bueren (German: Büren) is a municipality in the district of Paderborn, in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Bueren is found on the River Alme, and is separated into 14 subdivisions (of which Bueren is one).

One of the 14 villages is Wewelsburg, which is home to Wewelsburg castle. The castle houses the local museum, which contains a display of SS paraphernalia, as the castle is the subject of myth and legend from the Nazi era.

There is also an extensive history of the castle, detailing its time as a place of worship. There is a museum in town, too, in a former mill built in 1532. Another mill, built in 1537, is now a music hall and holds concerts throughout the year.

Bueren is first mentioned in 1095, and one of the first churches in the area is believed to be dedicated to Saint Gangolf in the latter half of the 800s. Today the old town and church is commemorated by a cross on Menkenberg.

In 1150 the Lords of Bueren built fortifications around the town (some still visible today, including two towers and parts of the wall), at the merging of the Rivers Alm and Afte. In 1243 the Lords built the monastery, where they were subsequently buried.

In 1490 the Saint Sebastian Brotherhood was founded. The Catholic Parish Church of Saint Nicholas has parts dating back as early as the 1200s, with bits added to it over the years. The City Hall goes back to the 1600s. Nowadays, Bueren is serviced by a regional airport at Paderborn/Lippstadt, and several major highways.
