Car Hire Buenos Aires - Mini guide to Buenos Aires
Situated on the vast flood plain of the River Plate, Buenos Aires is famed for its cultural diversity, mysteriousness, and relaxed, liberal atmosphere, making the capital of Argentina an exciting and rewarding holiday destination.
The city is divided into north and south hemispheres by the incredibly long Avenida Rivadavia. The division is not merely physical; the south is mainly working-class while the north is home to the citys elite. The south hemisphere of the city is generally considered the more interesting and atmospheric, and wandering the old cobbled streets of the barrios or neighbourhoods, is a great way to discover some of the citys mysterious charm and traditional character. Take in the crumbling elegance of San Telmo, or, alternatively, the contrasting chaotic palette of La Boca.
The other sections of the city are well worth exploring as well. To the north lie the four renowned neighbourhoods of Retiro, Recoleta, Palmero and Belgrano, offering magnificent mansions (including the spectacular Palacio San Martin), beautiful parks and pleasant plazas. The districts also house many of the citys most famous museums (the Museo de Arte Hispanoamericano, the Museo de Arte Decorativo, and the Museo de Arte Espanol) and the famous La Recoleta cemetery, where Evita is buried. Another famous cemetery, the Chacarita, is located in the western section of the city, and includes the tomb of tango singer Carlos Gardel.
Most of the citys first class accommodation is situated in the city centre, as are the best restaurants, cafes and nightlife. The night scene, in particular, is invigorating, with action to be found at all hours at the many cafes, bars, pubs and clubs.
Once you have exhausted the attractions of the city, head to the surrounding countryside for some relaxation. Refresh yourself at the surprisingly beautiful Parani Delta area, with its lush vegetation and quaint traditional houses or, alternatively, take a boat from Tigre to the Isla Martin Garcia Nature Reserve and discover varied flora and fauna.
Buenos Aires International Airport serves most major carriers, with Miami International Airport being the main hub for European travelers. Shuttle services from the airport to the city centre are both frequent and reliable.
