Located just south of Bryan is the campus of Texas A&M University, in the city of College Station. The university sees enrolment of about 46,000 students per year. The local Blinn College has a campus in Bryan as well and has an enrolment of nearly 10,000 students.
The town towns of Bryan and College Station together make up a large metropolitan area that is home to nearly 190,000 people.
The area of Bryan began to see settlers around the 1820s. The are was part of a land grant from Spain to Moses Austin. His son Stephen was a big help in getting settlers to move there, and one of the settlers was Stephen’s nephew Bryan, of which the town is named after. Bryan saw a huge boom in population once the Houston and Texas Central Railroad arrived in town in 1860. Bryan’s new motto (changed in 2004) is “The good life, Texas style.” It’s no wonder so many people call this place home and love to visit. There is a lot to see and do, but there’s also a time to relax in Bryan.
