Mini guide to Bruck
Bruck is German for ‘bridge’, and as such there are many places called Bruck in Germany. One such place is located in the state of Bavaria, in the Upper County Ebersberg district, and the management community of Glonn in the Munich region. It includes one traditional land unit, or Germarkung, also called Bruck.
There are many smaller communities within Bruck, namely Feichten, Taglaching, Wildaching, Pienzenau, Alxing, Bauhof, Pullenhofen, Loch, Nebelberg, Schlipfhausen, Doblbach, Eichtling, Hamberg, Einharting and Wildenholzen.
Ebersberg (German ‘Eber’ for boar and ‘berg’ for mountain) is a small district in the state of Bavaria, and despite the fact the city of Munich is found in Ebersberg, the rate of urbanisation is relatively low as Ebersbery contains many forests – in the north is a forest of over 80 kilometres squared, made up of three separate forests (Anzinger, Ebersberger and Eglhartinger Forests). These areas serve as recreation places for the people of Munich – the capital of Bavaria. Ebersberg is made up of two towns (Ebersberg and Grafing) and 14 municipalities, of which Bruck is one.
The German (Free State) of Bavaria is geographically the largest state in Germany, and is also the most southern. Unlike other German groups, the Bavarians did not come in from other places but instead seemed to come together from other groups that had been left behind when the Romans withdrew in the late 400s. The people from these groups may have included Marcomanni, Thuringians, Goths, Rugians, Heruli and some Romans that had been left behind, or chose to.
Bavaria shares borders with Switzerland (on the other side of Lake Constance), Austria and the Czech Republic. In the more rural areas of Bavaria, Bavarians see themselves are significantly different to the rest of Germany in many respects, among them religion, their attitude towards tradition, food and drink, and language. It has been said that Bavarians see themselves as separate from the rest of Germany!
