Car Rental Brighton - Exploring Brighton
The Sussex coastline has some lovely spots, and by car you can really experience the grandeur of the chalk cliffs that typify this stretch of Britains coast.
80 miles of coastline means super beaches for the family; there are lovely gardens, history and heritage; castles, abbeys, priories, stately homes and historic houses. There are also family amusement parks and wildlife centers.
Immediately north, inland, is the Devil's Dyke, carved into the heart of the Sussex downs, its a lovely piece of English countryside and good for walking. Good vistas are numerous and little villages, with pubs for the thirsty, are dotted everywhere. Ashdown forest is a particular highlight of the area.
Other picturesque sites worth exploring are the villages of Alfriston, Lindfield and Petworth, the famous gardens of Leonardslee, Nymans and Borde Hill, and the historic houses of Great Dixter, Parham and Standen. Further afield, visit the castles of Hever, Leeds and Arundel or the historic towns of Lewes, Chichester or Royal Tunbridge Wells.
Further west is the historic town of Battle, near Hastings, where William the Conqueror marched in to claim the island. Re-enactments of the battle take place in summer and there are informative tours and a good museum.
