Car Hire Brescia - Mini guide to Brescia

Located in the Northern Lombardy region of Italy, Brescia is renowned for its important architectural treasures, acclaimed museums and nearby spectacular countryside which make it an appealing tourist destination.

The highlight of a visit to Brescia is the old castle that now contains two stunning museums, the Arms Museum and the Risorgimento Museum. The former houses an impressive collection of over 500 side-arms and firearms dating from the 15th and 17th centuries. Also on display is an excellent collection of armour and shields, dating from as far back as the 14th century through to the 16th century. The Risorgimento Museum exhibits around 8,000 items from the late 18th century to the late 19th century, including photos, swords, side and firearms, memorabilia relating the history of the history of Risorgimento, and a series of portraits and paintings by Basiletti, Inganni, Gordigiani, and Joli.

The city’s Piazza del Foro is surrounded by impressive architectural heritage such as the Capitolium, the Roman Theatre, the S. Salvatore Basilica, the Broletto, and the Rotonda, while the city’s reputation as a cultural center is supported by the superb art collections of the Pinacoteca Tosio-Martinengo art gallery, the Museum of the Christian Age and the Roman Museum.

Brescia's hotels and restaurants are renowned for their excellent service and first class standards. The city also boasts an exciting nightlife, with a variety of charming bars and cafes to suit all moods and tastes.

Between the city of Brescia and Lake Garda, there are numerous opportunities to seek out important sites of archaeological, historical and artistic beauty, such as the Franciacorta, the Abbazia di Rodengo, and Rodengo. The unsurpassed splendour of the Lago di Garda ) Lake Garda) and the mountains of Val Trompia are easily accessed from Brescia, and further afield lie other famed Italian lakes such as Como, Maggiore, Isola Bella, Lago d'Orta, Lago d'Iseo and Lago Ledro. Situated in valleys among the Alps, these lakes are some of Italy’s most beautiful areas.
